Keija was currently dragging me down every toy aisle in Target. She was looking for the perfect gift for Mia, and I was over it. Everything she picked up she asked for, and since I told her she couldn’t have it, she didn’t want Mia to have it either.

“Keija, Christmas is coming soon. You may get everything you want if you stop being so selfish.”

“Selfish? What is that?”

“Not wanting to buy Mia certain gifts because you don’t have them makes you selfish. You don’t want to make your best friend's birthday special?”

“Yes.”

“Then pick out the best gift you can find so we can get out of here.”

Keija finally settled on an L.O.L Surprise doll pack. We grabbed a bag and some candy and headed to the party. Keija was excited to go and asked if we were there every three minutes. I had to turn the radio up to tune her out for the drive to the event center where Mia’s party was being held.

“Mommy!”

I turned the music down and looked through the rearview mirror at her.

“I said where is Calvo?”

“Calvo won’t be coming around anymore because he and Mommy are no longer friends.”

“But why?”

When my phone rang, I answered it from my dash.

“Hey, baby girl,” Big Killa said.

“Hey, how are you?”

“Hey, Pawpaw!” Keija yelled at the top of her lungs.

“There is my favorite girl. Are you ready for Christmas?”

I wanted to scream at the mention of Christmas. He was for sure going to get Keija back started.

“Yes!”

“Big Killa, what are you doing today?”

“Trying to lace you up, so take me off speaker for a minute.”

I hurriedly disconnected the phone from the dash and put my AirPods in.

“What’s going on?”

“Khaos is home.”

I don’t know why I fell silent, but I did.

“You still there.”

“Yeah.”

“I want to ask you something, and you’ve never lied to me, so don’t pick today to start.”

I figured one day I would have to answer to Big Killa. Keija looked so much like Khaos and Killa that it was mind-blowing. Keija even asked me was Big Killa her daddy because he had eyes like hers, and I damn near screamed.

“Yeah, she’s his.”

“I mean, I knew it all along, but you had a lot going on with the death of your father, and then Khaos went away. Since I didn’t miss any time with her, I won’t hold against you, but you better tell my son.”

“Why you didn’t tell me he was coming home?”

“Because you never asked about him, and he never asked about you, which was a dead ass giveaway that you two were fucking around behind me and Waymond’s back. I pray you were of age.”

“Yes, I was eighteen. Khaos never forced me to do anything.”

“I see you coming to his defense.” He chuckled, causing me to roll my eyes.

“So, when you want me to tell him?”

“He’s tying up a few loose ends right now. How about we plan a nice Sunday dinner?”

“I would love that.”

“It will be small, just me, you, Khaos, and Keija.
